Bicyclers get a kudos from me. These people who bike are doing there part in saving the planet by burning calories instead of fossil fuels. BUT they get a WTF also. They are obnoxious when they use the whole lane and you can't get around them and they go way slower than the flow of traffic.
Today, as a matter of fact, I'm trying to deliver flowers on my usual route and I need to make a left turn on a one way street the biker is on my far left and this bike is hogging the left side of the road and forces me to either cut him off or slow down quickly and get behind him. Cutting the biker off could cause the poor guy to loose control. Slamming on the brakes might have caused the car behind me to rear end me.
Another thing that really bothers me or cyclists is the fact that they don't pay road taxes. You don't have to have tabs on you bike. They don't pay these taxes but they reap the benefits. There are special bike only lanes. They legally have the right of way in traffic. And one other thing bikes are allowed is the ability to ride up the wrong way on a one street on the sidewalk. These benefits give cycling some serious advantages.
Now does this or should this bother us car drivers. We as you know pay road taxes and gas taxes and other taxes to maintain the roads and sidewalks that we all use. We driving cars pollute the air with our fossil fuels. The bikers don't.
Some people think the more people that cycle to work the less cars are left on the road. But does that help us get to our destinations faster or slower. Either way it seems to me we'll either get stuck behind a car or we'll get stuck behind a biker. In conclusion everyone just need to learn to get along. The bikers do what they gotta do and the drivers can do what they gotta do.
The bicycle Transportation Institute website has a good article called "Bicycles and the Traffic Law: A Guide to Improving U.S. Traffic Laws Pertaining to Bicycling" This article gives good suggestions on improving bicycle traffic laws.
